(Edmonton Oilers/Twitter) The Edmonton Oilers are the only NHL team featuring two former G-men, making them a popular choice to cheer for amongst Giants fans. Fans of the two teams certainly had to be impressed by the effort given by Evander Kane tonight! Edmonton was out of sync in the first frame despite having a few decent chances offensively and found themselves down 3-0 entering the second period.
Determined to get back into the game, the club came out firing on all cylinders during the middle frame and scored three unanswered goals during the second period. The Oilers’ comeback bid began at the 4:55 marker and was good enough to push the game to the third period tied at three. With 15:32 remaining in the third period, Matt Roy shoveled home the puck on a backhand shot to put the Kings back up on the board. The Kings carried that 4-3 lead until the 16:58 mark of the third period, when the Oilers would be rewarded for their efforts to get the game tied up again. Kane’s goal was his second of the playoffs and couldn’t have come at a better time for the Oilers. He would scoop up the puck from Connor McDavid before rifling a shot glove-side on Joonas Korpisalo. Kane is no stranger to scoring goals, whether with the Vancouver Giants or now with the Edmonton Oilers. Evander Kane is among the most popular players to play with the Vancouver Giants. The left-shot forward totaled 134 games, with the Giants allowing him to put up 138 points. Kane made his WHL debut on December 13, 2006, against the Seattle Thunderbirds. His talent has allowed him to put up 302 goals and 271 assists for 573 points in 853 games. Kane entered the post-season just two points shy of a 30-point campaign, despite only playing half the season due to injury. The 2022-23 season is Kane’s 15th in the NHL, and this season’s playoffs are just the fourth of his career. The BC boy had a solid playoff push last year, picking up 17 points in 15 games, aiding the Oilers to the third round. He now has two goals and an assist in four games. The Oilers out-shot the Kings by a 42-39 margin and were 2/2 on the man advantage. The series flips to Edmonton for Tuesday’s Game 5 and will return to Los Angeles for Saturday’s Game 6. If a seventh game is necessary, it will be played in oil country, meaning tonight’s victory has maintained the home-ice advantage for Edmonton. Kane made the Giants organization proud tonight, but don’t count him out from having another spectacular game on Tuesday.
