(Chris Relke/Vancouver Giants) The Vancouver Giants have worn jerseys to honour Gordie Howe and Pat Quinn in recent franchise memory and now those Pat Quinn jerseys will be taken off the shelf, once more, for Friday’s home game against Everett. The Giants are celebrating St. Patrick’s Day in style this Friday. The blue jerseys with green and black trim and a hint of white first debuted on November 10, 2016. The special jerseys were worn honouring Pat Quinn’s induction into the Hockey Hall of Fame. James Malm and Radovan Bondra helped the G-men sink the Cougars that night with a 4-2 victory. Tyler Benson was the team, Captain.
The jerseys feature a clover on the front as a tribute to “The Big Irishman,” which also fits the celebration of St Patrick’s Day! Quinn was well-known in hockey, having played, coached, and served as a General Manager at the pro level. Quinn played for the hometown Canucks, had a stint on the bench with the blue and green, and even spent time as the General Manager of the Canucks. Quinn did it all for the game of hockey. His name was on the Memorial Cup as part of the Giants’ win in 2007, but he also won it as a player with the 1963 Edmonton Oil Kings. Quinn played, coached, and is now in the ownership group of the Vancouver Giants. Although he passed away on November 23, 2014, his hockey legacy within and outside the Giants organization continues to last. Vancouver (25-29-5-3) is hoping the luck of the Irish continues to bring them luck, as Friday’s game will be the second last home game of the regular season. Vancouver currently has 6 games remaining in their 68-game regular season. The players should have fun on the ice with these threads, and fans should enjoy the $5 beer at the Original 16 Founder’s Corner from 6-8 PM. The team also reminds fans to stay seated during the second intermission to participate in Chuck-a-Puck. Whether you make it out to the game or not, the team wishes you a pot of gold this St. Patrick’s Day!
